Roberto Prosseda has recently gained international notoriety following the Decca recordings dedicated to piano music by Felix Mendelssohn, who recorded in full in 10 CDs (2005 – 2014), released in a single box set in 2017 (“Mendelssohn Complete Piano Works”). He has won numerous record awards, including the CHOC of Le Monde de la Musique-Classica, the Diapason d’Or, the Best of the Month by Classic FM, the “Best of the 2012” by the Leipziger Volkszeitung, the “Supersonic” of Pizzicato magazine (1/2013), the nomination ICMA International Classical Music Awards.
Born in Latina in 1975, Roberto Prosseda undertook piano studies with Anna Maria Martinelli and Sergio Cafaro. Dmitri Bashkirov, Leon Fleisher, Alexander Lonquich, William Naboré, Boris Petrushansky, Franco Scala, Charles Rosen, Karl Ulrich Schnabel, Fou Ts’ong, professors with whom he studied at the Imola Piano Academy, the International Piano Foundation and the Sermoneta courses, contributed to this report. He has established himself in various international competitions (“Micheli” in Milan, “Casagrande” by Terni, “Schubert” by Dortmund, “Mozart” of Salzburg).
Since 2005 Roberto Prosseda has been playing regularly with some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, New Japan Philharmonic, Moscow State Philharmonic, Santa Cecilia, Philharmonic of La Scala, Brussels Philharmonic, Residentie Orkest, Netherlands Symphony, Berliner Symphoniker, Staatskapelle Weimar, Calgary Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewan Gedhaus. He has played under the direction of David Afkham, Marc Albrecht, Christian Arming, Harry Bickett, Oleg Caetani, Riccardo Chailly, Pietari Inkinen, Yannik Nezeit-Seguin, George Pehlivanian, Dennis Russel-Davies, Tugan Sokhiev, Jurai Valcuha, Jan Willem de Vriend.
With the Gewandhaus Orchester conducted by Riccardo Chailly he recorded Mendelssohn’s Unreleased Mi Minor Concerto, published by Decca in September 2009. In Italy he is a regular guest of major concert bodies, including the Academy of Santa Cecilia, the Teatro alla Scala, the Musical Union of Turin, the Teatro la Fenice, the Chigiana Academy of Siena, the Municipal Theatre of Bologna.
Prosseda is also particularly appreciated in the interpretations of Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, authors to whom he has also dedicated himself in his most recent decca recordings. His complete Mozart Sonatas (2015-18) has received significant international acclaim.
Also active in the promotion of today’s music, Prosseda has in repertory the integral piano production of Petrassi, Dallapiccola and Aldo Clementi and numerous compositions by contemporary Italian composers. It is dedicated to numerous piano compositions by famous contemporary composers, including Aldo Clementi, Ennio Morricone, Luca Lombardi, Marcello Panni, Alessandro Solbiati, Michele da Ongaro, Paolo Castaldi, Ivan Fedele, Carlo Boccadoro, Nicola Campogrande.
In 2010, Deutsche Grammophon selected twelve Prosseda recordings to be included in theClassic Goldbox set, released in May 2010. Since 2011 he has also played in public piano-pédalier, having rediscovered and presented in the first modern performance various pieces of Alkan and the Concerto by Charles Gounod for piano-pédalier and orchestra with the Toscanini Philharmonic of Parma, and which has re-performed with the Berliner Symphoniker, the Staatskapelle of Weimar, the Lahti Philharmonic, the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra.
In October 2012 he recorded a CD with four tracks for Piano-pédalier and Gounod orchestra at the premiere, with the Orchestra of Italian Swiss Radio conducted by Howard Shelley (Hyperion). Roberto Prosseda is also involved in music research and dissemination. He is the co-author of three documentaries,dedicated to Mendelssohn, Chopin and Liszt,directed by Angelo Bozzolini, produced by RAI Educational and distributed by Euroarts. He has edited numerous radio cycles for Vatican Radio and Radiotre (including the one on Aldo Clementi) and is the author of the book “Guide to Listening to Piano Music” (Curci, 2013).
